About The Author

August 9, 2006

Tess is 23 and lives in Wisconsin.

She is an Asatruar, and a flawlessly polite, ruthless, naughty, mercenary, machiavellian Metalhead sophist. Dirty-minded and full of regrettable notions of noblesse oblige, she is also tattooed, a Yuai, and a genteel contagion who has been described as “The 11th Plague,” and is only capable of ethical thought when it is couched in terms of Greek tragedy.

An avid reader, her favourite authors include Margaret Atwood, Vladimir Nabokov, William Blake, John Fowles, Umberto Eco, John M. Ford, Will Shetterly, Emma Bull, Charles DeLint, Charlaine Harris, Thomas Hardy, George Orwell, Hunter S. Thompson, Robin McKinley, Robert Jordan, Ray Bradbury, Sophocles, Aeschylus, Euripides, and Tolkien.

Her music tastes are certainly questionable (her favourite band being Manowar), if wide-ranging, and focus on Heavy Metal, EBM, Old School Goth, folk, 70s/80s pop, swing, jazz, singers & standards, avant garde nonsense, and nigh onto anything else that isn’t post-1980 country and/or western.

Although she doesn’t watch much television, she enjoys film noir, other old movies, some new movies, zombie-related films, and movies that are so wretched as to be rendered hilarious by said wretchedness.

Tess can be contacted at tess.grey at gmail dot com and would love to hear from you.

The original photographs at Teadonism are taken by a nice fellow named Pete on his gorgeous Canon EOS RebelXT/350D. Any questions about his setups and/or equpiment, or requests for him to shoot the cover of any major magazine, can be directed to Tess at the address above, and she’ll pass ‘em on.

Any and all feedback is welcomed.

    Hi Tess
I enjoy your blog! I was wondering, even though you don’t watch much TV, have you been watching Deadwood? I think they are probably drinking some pretty hardcore puer in Deadwood. How else could they spout iambic pentameter infused with so much graphic language? You can’t get there with badlands booze alone? What’s you take?
    Best wishes!
    Austin

    Thanks much for the visit!

Haven’t seen Deadwood, but have been meaning to pick up the DVDs of it sometime. I’ve been told I’d like it–wonder what that says about me!

Now you have me plotting vile concotions of puerh-and-booze. Or maybe a smoky lapsang souchung and a peaty scotch…

I might have to try that–see if I start some well-metered, good-humoured cussing myself!

A Chinese tea drinking girl who listens to metal, reads books instead of television, and watches old and foreign films? I’ll take one, hahaha. The only differences between us are you write better and are more well read. (I blame my science brain meh).

Nice looking journal. Hope to see more.

  4. Steven Dodd Says:

Er, the tea is Chinese is the case above. Too many adjectives strung together. Silly English language.

  5. Tess Grey Says:

Awww, thanks! I understood you all right — but you science-brains and your unclear antecedents, gosh! ;)

    Thanks much for the visit!

Where in Wisconsin? I spent 4 great years in Appleton, WI (for college).

  7. Tess Grey Says:

    Oh, good heavens!

You went to Lawrence, didn’t you?

    *I* went to Lawrence!

    I’m still living in Appleton!

  8. The Simple Leaf Says:

Wow! Yes, I did go to Lawrence. Small world.

Lived in Trever and Ormsby. Hated Downer (perhaps its improved now).

  9. Tess Grey Says:

    That’s just too funny!

I lived for a bit in Trever, too, but mostly off-campus. Downer, as I understand it, never did improve much, but since I only ate there a few times a month on a friend’s swipe, it was always a treat for me.

    What was your major?

  10. The Simple Leaf Says:

    Econ/Anthro.
